Much of the Phoenix Suns' offseason plans have revolved around Grayson Allen and Jordan Goodwin, the two players most believe are the priority to bring back.

Doing so will create a fascinating role battle between the two, while Mark Williams was also tendered a qualifying offer according to Keith Smith of Sportrac. This doesn't guarantee he will be in The Valley to begin next season, but keeps the ball firmly in the team's court on that decision.

Koby Brea surprisingly receives qualifying offer alongside Williams

Added to the bottom of Smith's announcement was that the organization had also extended the same offer to Koby Brea. The 23-year-old was a second round pick by the Suns last season, but saw his opportunities limited thanks to an unexpected postseason run.

He appeared in only 12 games, although his Summer League performance prior to that (we know, many a player has fooled the NBA at this event...) had fans gushing about a shooting form that had shades of Devin Booker to it.

The problem was there were too many veterans who were helping them win games to get on the court, while Rasheer Fleming and Khaman Maluach were chosen as the youngsters to turn loose and allowed to make some mistakes as they grew.

There has been zero indication that any other franchise is interested in taking a flyer on Brea, but at least the Suns can now match any offer that could come his way. The surprise here is that they still believe there may be something to having Brea in Phoenix, despite the fact they will be again trying to win next season.

On his two-way deal it is not like he was taking up a valuable roster spot or cost a lot of money, but the Suns have to build a winner around Booker and Brea is only beginning his NBA journey. The organization also has the 47th pick in this year's draft that they will want to get in the building, and rumors persist that they could be trying to move up the draft board as well.

Brea deserves his chance with this team, but because of circumstance it still may never come.

It a a big positive that the front office at least believes matching a potential offer he may receive is worth the conversation and opportunity to turn down, which makes his future much easier to figure out than that of Williams.
