The Phoenix Suns pulled off an unexpected move that had two parts on Monday, as they waived two-way forward C.J. Huntley without ever playing a minute of basketball for the team. They quickly followed that up with the addition of Jamaree Bouyea in his spot, although his position on the court poses more questions than answers.

Suns adding another point guard in Bouyea.

The 25-year-old has spent much of the last three seasons in the G League, although he did appear five times for the Milwaukee Bucks last season and had his single career start for that franchise as well. It is clear head coach Jordan Ott believes it is better to have another creator and backcourt operator on standby, and this makes a lot of sense.

Devin Booker has been on a tear so far this season, although the absence of Jalen Green has created a role for Isaiah Livers. The fact he has taken that chance, as well as the Suns having a lot of depth at the forward spot with guys like Ryan Dunn, Oso Ighodaro and even Nigel Hayes-Davis, is why Bouyea was favored over Huntley.

Right now it's unlikely he is going to see any game time with the Suns, although he is also an alternative if Collin Gillespie slows down. The backup floor general has surpassed every expectation already this season, but the regular campaign is gruelling and he has slowed down some in recent outings.

Really though if there is one player who should be worried it is Jordan Goodwin, as although he's managed over 16 minutes per game and is the perfect defensive-minded veteran at the guard position, the arrival of Bouyea means it is his spot under threat. He's got nothing to worry about right now, and in fact he beat out better competition to make the roster.

Jared Butler was one of the stars of preseason play, but the franchise went with the steady contributions of Goodwin instead. It is hard to know what one skill Bouyea can bring that Goodwin does not, as he's currently hitting on a career high 39.4 percent of his efforts from deep so far this season as well.

Bouyea has managed about 12 minutes of action throughout his brief career, but that doesn't stack up next to Goodwin. Then again, the Suns took a chance on Gillespie in the same spot and it paid off handsomely. This is a chance to once again improve around the fringes, all Bouyea needs is the opportunity to show what he can do.
