Just don't think about the cap sheet.

The Phoenix Suns continue to surpass expectations, and have incredibly managed to win 30 games before the end of January.

They are also known to be interested in strengthening their roster at the power forward position, although the play of Royce O'Neale should give them reason to reconsider that stance.

Suns checked in on availability of Jeremy Sochan

Michael Scotto of HoopsHype shared his latest around the league notes early on Saturday with the trade deadline another day closer, and the Suns surprisingly came up as a team to monitor when it comes to Jeremy Sochan.

The San Antonio Spurs forward managing only 13.1 minutes per game in Texas currently, which is nearly half what he averaged in his first three seasons in the league.

It is clear the Spurs have gone in another direction, and Scotto also noted that Suns' backup big man Nick Richards had been mentioned in potential trade talks.

This also tracks, given San Antonio currently employs another former Suns center in Bismack Biyombo whose best days in the league are behind him.

The Spurs are also well aware that Victor Wembanyama is going to go through periods during the regular season in which he misses time, and Richards is a better solution to have for this problem than Sochan.

If you're Phoenix this also makes sense because Sochan is the kind of buy low player who could come good in the right system. You can bet head coach Jordan Ott would get the best out of him too.

The defensive setup he has in place means that alongside Dillon Brooks he would be a constant source of annoyance for opponents, although it is unknown how he would disrupt the amazing chemistry in The Valley.

Most dangerously of all though, bringing him in would push the Suns closer to the dreaded second apron that they had to operate in during the Kevin Durant era.

The whole point of the roster they have right now around Devin Booker is that it affords them the flexibility to go in different directions depending on which guys they already have pop.

It is also why the likes of Grayson Allen will surely have to be moved on before long, as although their fit makes sense, their contract and length of time still on their current deals does not.

Sochan is an intriguing option, and one the Suns should definitely consider. But the long-term cost of acquiring him might just be too great.
