The Phoenix Suns might have been the first team eliminated from the playoffs, but this was still a successful season for the franchise.
They got their identity back and The Valley cares about the team again, and making it back to the postseason in 2026-27 has to be the minimum return here.
Several key Suns won't be in town when Phoenix returns to playoffs
But in order for the Suns to get there, they are going to have to make tough decisions both this summer and into next year to ensure Devin Booker continues playing meaningful basketball.
Ryan Dunn
After two seasons, we have officially seen enough of forward Ryan Dunn. There has been no improvement to his offensive game, while his shooting consistency does not exist.
His inability to score a single point in the series was obviously bad, but there were no outstanding moments on the defensive end either.
All of it came together to lead to the most forgettable first postseason experience you are ever going to see, and it is why the Suns have to cash in now while Dunn still has some value around the league.
Rasheer Fleming looks like a natural replacement to him in the starting lineup anyway, and when the games start to matter again, Dunn will be playing elsewhere.
Grayson Allen
You thought Mark Williams was going to be sitting here didn't you? While the center may well be let walk this offseason, the Suns gave up a pair of firsts for him and clearly believe in his talent.
The same cannot be said for Allen, and although the team is better when he is out there the 30-year-old is always injured when he is needed the most.
If i’m the Suns, the 8 players I keep are:
— CantGuardBook (@CGBBURNER) March 16, 2026
- Devin Booker
- Jalen Green
- Dillon Brooks
- Rasheer Fleming
- Khaman Maluach
- Collin Gillespie
- Mark Williams
- Ryan Dunn https://t.co/ZesAgDWSr5
With two years remaining on his current deal and elite 3-point shooting still in there when available, the Suns could get something of real value back if they traded Allen.
The kind of asset that will be helpful to them the next time they are in the playoffs, because Allen won't be suiting up.
Jalen Green
The series versus the Oklahoma City Thunder confirmed all of our worst fears about the former second overall pick. Green is an excellent scorer who makes some tough shots look easy.
But against a truly elite team, he can be marked out of a game physically, while on the defensive end he is picked on constantly. This would not be a problem if Green could regularly go supernova, but he cannot.
Instead Dillon Brooks took on the offensive load that everybody thought would belong to Green, while there are definitely other franchises out there who could talk themselves into his services.
If the Suns want to give Booker the best chance of winning, keep Brooks and some of the youngsters, trade Green, Allen and Dunn and let's get him a better supporting cast for their next playoff run.
