Suns' perfect trade target just became available and it's not Giannis

More to life than the "Greek Freak".

The entire NBA appears to be waiting to see what will happen with Giannis Antetokounmpo, but the Phoenix Suns shouldn't be bothered by the Greek superstar's future.

They don't have the package to try and entice him to The Valley, and they're still getting over the last time they went all in for a massive name. A mistake they won't be making again for a while.

Time to strike deal for Jonathan Kuminga has arrived.

So while the whole league is looking towards Milwaukee to see what will happen, the time to steal Jonathan Kuminga from under everybody's noses has come.

Kuminga's time with the Golden State Warriors is over, after he was once again benched by head coach Steve Kerr.

An important note here is the fact he can't be traded until January 15th, and the Giannis situation could be old news by that point. If that happens, those who missed out on Antetokounmpo may turn their attentions to the 23-year-old.

But with owner Mat Ishbia always willing to pay good money to keep players in Phoenix, a fact which was rumored to interest Kuminga in the first place, they still have an excellent chance of landing him.

Even more so now that his trade value has hit an all-time low. The Warriors apparently didn't want Grayson Allen as part of a package for Kuminga during the summer. They wouldn't be getting him now.

Instead something like Royce O'Neale, Nick Richards (sorry Boston), another player and a couple of second round picks might get a deal done.

Obviously if Allen is the player holding the deal up, the Suns would likely relent. There's just too much potential in Kuminga to walk away from, and he would have the perfect mentor in Dillon Brooks.

You would think Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green combined would have been the perfect teachers for the youngster, but that hasn't been the case.

It would also be sweet for the Suns to get one over on the Warriors, having lost out on adding Butler at the deadline last season as he headed to San Francisco instead.

There is another reality here, one in which Kuminga lands in Phoenix and doesn't buy into what head coach Jordan Ott is building. That is a concern, because the group he has now are playing as a team.

He is not wrong to want more touches and minutes, but he would still be the fourth option offensively behind Devin Booker, Jalen Green and even Brooks.

But guys like this don't become available all that often, and it is a case of Kuminga having the talent, but needing a change of scenery. Time for Brian Gregory to make the call ahead of doing a deal next month.
