The Phoenix Suns' goal to trade Kevin Durant before the draft became reality when they sent him to the Rockets in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick, and five second-round picks. It was the beginning of what's turned into a hectic offseason for Houston.

The Rockets have been one of the busiest teams this summer. Durant is the team's top addition, but he isn't the only one. They signed Dorian Finney-Smith to a four-year deal and Clint Capela to a three-year contract. Houston retained Steven Adams, Jeff Green, Aaron Holiday, and Jae'Sean Tate. Jabari Smith Jr. and Fred VanVleet signed extensions.

There are questions about the Rockets' current roster construction, like having Alperen Sengun, Capela, and Adams. Houston needs to beef up its backcourt, too. However, it's clear that the Rockets are serious about doing whatever it takes to win a title; otherwise, they wouldn't have traded for KD.

The Thunder will be the favorite to repeat as NBA champions, but Houston could surpass OKC as the Western Conference champion. The Rockets finished as the second-best seed in the conference last season, but didn't have the ammunition to beat the Warriors in the first round. Guess what? They do now.

Rockets are making moves after trading for Kevin Durant from Suns

Houston didn't have to mortgage its future for Durant. The Rockets would be one of the top suitors for Giannis Antetokounmpo if he were to hit the trade market, as they possess the draft capital and young talent to entice the Bucks. The organization is in a great position, to say the least.

Durant will turn 37 before the start of next season, so while time is ticking on his career, he's still one of the most lethal scorers in the league. Houston's timeline to win a championship with KD isn't long, which is why the front office has been so busy, especially in free agency. The Rockets have bolstered their starting lineup and bench for what they hope will be a season that extends into June. If Houston makes it that far, it will have Phoenix (and Los Angeles) to thank.
