The Phoenix Suns finally moved on from Kevin Durant Sunday, bringing to an end an underwhelming two-plus years in The Valley. It was great to see one of the best to ever do it suit up for the franchise and ball out, but there was zero playoff success and the fit next to Devin Booker and Bradley Beal never really got off the ground.
When you consider the kind of offers that were rumored to be going for the likes of Coby White too, you begin to realize the Suns were fleeced by his new team, the Houston Rockets. Now that Durant has found a new home - there is sure to be a flurry of trade activity around the league - all of which is going to happen as the Suns watch from the sidelines, armed with Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks.
Path is now clear for Jonathan Kuminga to find a new team this summer.
With Durant now out of the picture - attentions are turning to Jonathan Kuminga of the Golden State Warriors - and that could be bad news for the Suns. Already the Miami Heat - runners-up in the Durant sweepstakes - are rumored to be interested in trading for the 22-year-old, and they are not the only ones trying to make a deal.
This should worry the Suns because although they managed to get a potentially elite scorer in Green, there is no doubt that Kuminga has the higher two-way ceiling right now. It is clear he needs a change of scenery, and Phoenix would have been among the most ideal spots for him to go and do a little bit of everything next to Devin Booker.
"I as I watch Jonathan Kuminga from a distance, I just don't think he fits in the structure. It's what you guys discuss on a daily basis. When I watch style of the way the #Warriors want to play and I think, 'All right, are they going to be able to bring the best out of him, and… pic.twitter.com/qqYx6S5JKx

Instead the Suns have to figure out how to make the trio of Booker, Green and Bradley Beal work together, while Brooks does a veteran's impression of what Kuminga could have been. Looking at the bigger picture though, and this is an opportunity for a direct rival of the Suns to get a long-term piece in Kuminga while they themselves try to improve.
Everybody was sick of speculating about Durant - but now that he's in Houston - other teams are going to start playing their cards. Which could even see Kuminga moved before the NBA Draft on Wednesday, a night in which the Suns have their own 10th overall pick back in their hands from the Rockets.
You can bet that wherever Kuminga ends up playing next, he is likely to have a career year as well. He will be a restricted free agent next season - and we all know he has never been short on confidence on the court - so you can expect a big campaign from him. Perhaps the merry-go-round of players as a result of Durant leaving could end up with the Suns adding another useful player? Don't count on it.
