The Phoenix Suns will not be making any big offseason moves, but that hasn't stopped baseless rumors from hitting the internet.
We're not totally innocent ourselves, but at least this reasoning as to why De'Aaron Fox for Jalen Green works for both sides came with some sort of logic. Fox didn't exactly play like a star in the NBA Finals either.
Knicks won championship in part by dumping Julius Randle
Julius Randle is another name who has done the rounds, but all the New York Knicks have proven by winning it all without him is how much he would hold the Suns back from one day getting to that point themselves. Until that happens, they will unfortunately retain this unwanted moniker.
The bruising forward might have an offensive game that has its moments during a playoff series, but we now have too much proof that the Suns would be taking (at best) a sidewards step by trading for him.
There's a reason the Minnesota Timberwolves want to make large roster changes themselves this summer, and Randle is at the front of the queue to be shipped out. He's too inconsistent with the ball in hand and not quite elite enough defensively to hold up for four series in the Western Conference.
Smaller, aggressive guards (of which the San Antonio Spurs have plenty) are also able to work around Randle and have the necessary bite to take him on when required to do so. Compare that to Karl-Anthony Towns, the center who the Timberwolves gave up on to acquire him and who has been vindicated this season.
That is the kind of player profile the Suns need to be targeting. A player with clear talent who needs a change of scenery as an opportunity to rehab his perception around the league. It does help that Towns is one of the best shooting bigs we've ever seen, and he picked a great time to hold up defensively in the playoffs.
His ability to take on everybody from Victor Wembanyama to Evan Mobley on and come out on top a big reason why the Knicks are champions.
It is unfortunate that Towns himself has an existing relationship with Booker going back to their college days in Kentucky, but fans would not have been happy had Phoenix traded for him at the time.
If another player exists out there who is also just waiting for a chance to prove everybody wrong and help the Suns win big, they need to find them quickly and also live with the backlash that will initially come from The Valley. It just can't be Randle under any circumstances.
