The Phoenix Suns as currently constructed aren't close to winning a first NBA championship, which is why the likes of Ja Morant are suddenly being linked with a move to The Valley.

But if you look at what many contenders are on the lookout for this offseason, then the Suns can actually feel very good about their future if they can continue to improve their roster around Devin Booker.

Suns have elite role players and continuity in place to succeed

Having the superstar in place in Booker is the hard part, but all of the other contenders already have that locked down as well. The Philadelphia 76ers for example do not have a General Manager, having fired Daryl Morey after their own postseason setback.

The Suns don't have to worry about this, as Brian Gregory is only a year into the job and has done really well. He is going nowhere and is aligned with owner Mat Ishbia. So too is head coach Jordan Ott, with another contender in the Cleveland Cavaliers doubling down on their own leading man in a move that could yet come back to haunt them.

Kenny Atkinson has been a Coach of the Year with that same organization, and despite being swept in the Eastern Conference Finals they are sticking with him in a move that could yet backfire spectacularly. Again not a concern out in Phoenix, as their coaching staff is going nowhere and has not been poached this offseason either.

Then there are the elite role players and value the Suns have found to round out your roster, which is something every contender is on the lookout for all the time. With the league having a hard cap in place, it has never been more difficult to add actual talent on a fair contract to the middle/back end of a rotation.

Only the Suns have a pair of guys in Grayson Allen and Royce O'Neale who routinely outperform expectations and who are on some of the most team-friendly contracts in the league. The franchise also found Collin Gillespie, Jordan Goodwin and Jamaree Bouyea, all such valuable contributors during the regular season.

If the Cavaliers, 76ers or even Minnesota Timberwolves had any one of those guys right now, could it have helped their season? On their own most likely not, but this is one area of team building where the franchise has quietly excelled in the last couple of years.

It is a skill others are surely envious of, and will also allow the Suns to continue trying to re-tool successfully around Booker despite the financial limitations.
