The Phoenix Suns seem content to continue trying to build a winner around Devin Booker. With that in mind, Ron Holland II of the Detroit Pistons is a player they should consider inquiring about. With the Pistons signing Ausar Thompson to a monster extension and looking to take advantage of their own championship window, Holland looks like a player who is going to be left behind.

The reason for Holland's uncertain future is largely due to his perimeter shooting, which has not come along at the same rate as his defensive ability and motor have, which is ironic, as the Suns already have a player like that on their roster. Ryan Dunn will get one more chance to impress during training camp, but his days in The Valley still feel numbered.
The Suns have done an excellent job, given their financial constraints, at drafting players to help the back end of their rotation while also adding external talent. Miles Bridges is an upgrade for their starting five. The franchise overpaid to acquire him and now needs to target distressed assets from around the league to continue improving.
Holland fits the bill, and if the Suns could forge a deal centered around landing him while dumping Jalen Green, it would be a major win. Of course, there would be more pieces involved, but those two should be the main pieces at play.
For the Pistons, they would get another capable scorer who fits a lot better next to Cade Cunningham than he ever will Devin Booker. His next contract will not be close to the amount he will be looking for, so the Pistons also have the opportunity to sign a former second overall pick to a team-friendly deal and make him a long-term piece.
Holland would be the perfect Jordan Ott player
It is not hard to imagine Holland, who is still somehow only 21 years old, thriving under a defensive-minded head coach in Jordan Ott. The Pistons can't afford to bring him along at the pace required, as they try to win a championship.
Likewise, the Suns favor winning games with veterans, but any time you have the opportunity to add a player so young with clear upside, you take it. Phoenix could hopefully flip Dunn for even a second-round pick to create the space needed on the roster, while the idea of Holland and Koa Peat becoming the next Dillon Brooks/Miles Bridges tandem is intriguing.
Deals such as this one are hard to make, as franchises don't want to look foolish giving up on a young player too soon. That doesn't mean the Suns shouldn't test the Pistons' resolve.
