The Phoenix Suns' 2024-25 regular season schedule was revealed last week, with all sorts of tasty matchups and unique scheduling quirks to break down. As expected the opening weeks of the Suns' season are heavy in Western Conference meetings, with a two game trip to face both Florida teams in December the first time they'll venture far from The Valley.
The Suns do also have three road games across their first five contests to contend with, while four of their first five will come against both teams from Los Angeles in the Lakers and Clippers. We might be nearing the end of LeBron James in the NBA - but for the Suns - they'll be sick of him by the end of the first month.
Nestled in amongst all of this the Suns will be making a little bit of history when they take on the Clippers.
That's because the their first game of the season is going to take place in Inglewood in Los Angeles at the Intuit Dome, the new home of the Clippers. Unsurprisingly this game is also going to feature on national television as part of the NBA's Opening Week slate of games, in what is a boost for the Suns.
Despite being written off by many after their embarrassing postseason exit at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves last season, this proves that the Suns are still a massive draw for the league. They could have realistically put any opponent here for the Clippers to face, and the chose the Suns.
Paul George might have departed for the Philadelphia 76ers - but as long as this matchup promises Kawhi Leonard and James Harden versus Devin Booker and Kevin Durant - then it is going to command a lot of attention. What better way to open a new venue than this, with the Suns staying on in L.A. to face the Lakers a couple of nights later.
One player who will be missed from this showcase event is Russell Westbrook, the former Clipper and teammate of Durant having moved on to the Denver Nuggets. Those two appeared to have squashed their beef with one another - but with the pair being fierce competitors - the potential for a flair up always exists.
No sooner will the Suns have left the City of Angels they'll be back in Inglewood again, visiting the Clippers to close out October in what will be their fifth game of the season. The last time they'll be in the state of the art venue in 2024-25, unless the two meet in the postseason. A piece of trivia for you to break out at the next social event with work that you'd rather not be attending.
