Covington dealt with significant injury issues last season which diminished his effectiveness, but at 33 years old, he still has something left in the tank.

Even while dealing with injuries, he averaged 2.9 steals and 1.3 blocks per 36 minutes. His 34% mark from deep was a bit lower than we're accustomed to seeing from him, but it's still more than serviceable when taken with his defensive ability.
The Suns clearly put a huge emphasis on acquiring defensive wings this offseason. Covington would be another tool in that arsenal, and is more proven from 3 than the Suns draft picks. Signing him would give them room to grow and learn from him in the early part of the season.
