Ranking the top remaining free agents for the Phoenix Suns to sign

If the Phoenix Suns were to create an open roster spot, there are several remaining free agents that would be great fits.

We are nearly a month into free agency, yet there are numerous talented players who remain on the board. The new cap rules have contributed to this slower market, and will force some players to take significantly less money than they're worth.

Aside from signing Monté Morris and Mason Plumlee, the Phoenix Suns haven't taken full advantage of the market, preferring to re-sign their own players and draft others.

They currently don’t have an open roster spot, but that can easily change by cutting a player that doesn't factor into the team's plans this season.

Josh Okogie’s newer, bigger contract has decreased Nassir Little’s value as a trade piece, making him a prime candidate to be cut. David Roddy had a nice summer league, but his fit with the Suns actual roster is redundant.

The Suns could still use more shooting, playmaking, and shot creation off the bench. Neither Little nor Roddy bring any of those things to the table, so cutting one of them to go after one of the remaining free agents that do would make a lot of sense.

4. Doug McDermott

If the Suns prioritize adding more 3-point shooting, then it’s hard to do better than Doug McDermott off the bench. The 10-year veteran is basically Grayson Allen-lite. That’s a compliment. McDermott is still one of the best 3-point shooters in the league, hitting 41% of his attempts last season, exactly in line with his career mark.

And while that's already an elite percentage, it’s possible that joining the Suns can boost it even higher the same way Allen's was. McDermott has spent his entire career playing with middling teams, never sharing the floor with the type of stars Phoenix fields. That gravity will give McDermott more open looks than he's ever gotten.

The Suns just need someone that can hit open shots, specifically from the corner. They struck out on those players last offseason, but McDermott is close to a sure thing in that regard.
