The Phoenix Suns have two stars on Team USA this summer. Devin Booker started and scored nine points in their first exhibition game against Canada, but Kevin Durant is out with a calf injury. Booker opening the game over Jayson Tatum and Anthony Edwards proves his status amongst the NBA’s elite, and Durant is a USA legend. Do not be surprised to see KD starting if he can return from injury.

There should be optimism about his status. Kawhi Leonard left the squad to rehab his ailing knee. Executive director Grant Hill confirmed Durant will travel with the team to Abu Dhabi for their next stage of preparation, and fans will find out significantly more.

The Americans face Australia and Serbia during the next leg of their trip. Both are difficult games, and they may have to play them without Durant. It was something Hill said that should let fans know more information about his injury and status is coming quickly.

Grant Hill expects Kevin Durant to play in Abu Dhabi

Hill shared this quote on Durant ahead of their exhibition game versus Canada.

"He has been working, rehabbing, he's looked great. I think we're just being cautious and conservative. I think we expect to see him on the court when we're in Abu Dhabi."

The Americans have multiple days of practice and two games during this leg. They play on Monday versus Australia and Wednesday against Serbia. That is a short turnaround, but speaks to KD being close to returning to the floor. If fans do not see him play or hear about him practicing over the next week, his status for the Paris Olympics becomes in serious doubt.

Team USA opens Olympic pool play on July 28 versus Nikola Jokic and Serbia. It will be one of their toughest tests, and they need KD. Durant is unstoppable in FIBA play and plans on getting a fourth Olympic gold medal in Paris. That is only possible if the future Hall of Famer is healthy, and fans know calf injuries are tricky.

Team USA will be cautious, but expect Kevin Durant to suit up before their exhibition slate ends. They needs his shooting and scoring to distance themselves from the competition. KD wants to represent his country. It is all a matter of his health, so stay tuned for all the latest.
