3 times Frank Vogel tried to tell Suns' fans something was wrong this season

Phoenix Suns' head coach Frank Vogel has come under the microscope after a poor season but if you read between the lines, he was telling us this team had problems.

1. David Roddy playing point guard

Without doubt the greatest cry for help from Vogel all season, was when he said the following...

This was after the Suns had signed Isaiah Thomas to a 10-day contract - which was eventually guaranteed through the end of the season - which in itself was bad. Thomas making it back to the NBA was a nice story, but the Suns were supposed to be in a much better place than trying to see if they could get anything out of the former All-Star.

dark. Next. 7 Suns who definitely won't be back next season. 7 Suns who definitely won't be back next season

Really though suggesting either Josh Okogie or David Roddy could play backup point guard minutes was outrageous. Neither are natural ball-handlers by nature. Roddy averaged 3.7 minutes in 17 regular season games, and somehow played half that in only two playoff contests. His nickname is apparently "Big Body Roddy"... and you want him running the point?

This was Vogel's way of saying to the front office "you made a mistake not getting a true point guard to run this team", and he was absolutely proven correct. Booker and Beal did the best they could together, but both are more natural scorers. Fitting the floor general in would have been hard, but they were needed badly to organize the offense, which froze when it was needed most.
