3 players the Suns were right not to panic sign this offseason

The Phoenix Suns now have a completed roster, and they did the right thing by avoiding even thinking about adding any of these guys.

1. Killian Hayes

The case for going after Killian Hayes was kind of interesting, but this was a situation the Suns were best to avoid. Hayes was recently picked up by the Brooklyn Nets after a couple of workouts, but they are an organization who can invest in a player like this.

The Suns on the other hand need to win - and win now - and the addition of Hayes wouldn't have helped at all. Does he have a higher ceiling as a point guard than Morris for example? That's probably true, but Morris is the veteran, level-headed presence that the team is going to need when they head to the playoffs next season.

Hayes on the other hand was ditched after four seasons by the Detroit Pistons. Another rebuilding organization with the key difference being they look like they're trying to clear house of any distractions and focus on getting better. It's partly why they signed Tobias Harris to a large deal. They had to spend the money, but made the right choice in picking a trusted veteran.

In letting Hayes - the seventh overall pick in 2021 - go for nothing, the Pistons waved the white flag early on his development. Generally younger players (he's still only 22) taken that high get a second chance in the league. It is telling that the Pistons didn't even see if they could get a second round pick for him, and just dropped him. The Suns had no business getting caught up in all of that.
