The Phoenix Suns had two stars on Team USA in the 2024 Olympics. Kevin Durant and Devin Booker shined as they helped their country win the gold medal in Paris. It was an epic tournament that saw the USA narrowly defeat Serbia and France in the knockout stage. It was the American's fifth-straight Olympic gold and fourth for KD, who again was a key.
Booker embraced a completely different role in Paris. He was more of a 3-and-D wing than a go-scorer on Team USA. Book earned the starting nod over Jayson Tatum, Anthony Edwards, and Derrick White as he further proved he is elite. He offered the perimeter defense, floor space, and ball movement that head coach Steve Kerr needed with the starting group.
Netflix produced Court of Gold, a documentary about the 2024 Olympic basketball tournament. It centers on the teams from the USA, France, Serbia, and Canada. Fans get to see a new side of Durant in the outstanding doc, but the biggest moment of the six-episode series is the superstar’s response to Evan Fournier’s wild comments about France’s team chemistry.
Kevin Durant offers the blunt truth to Evan Fournier and France in ‘Court of Gold’
The French wing believes the team’s years of experience playing together was their biggest advantage over Team USA. France has spent countless hours honing their crafts in training camps and competitions together.
The Americans select a new team every year but always win. Durant was quick to clap back at Fournier with the harsh reality.
"Y'all can play together every day for the last five years. That ain't gonna help you. That chemistry gonna help you when you gotta guard Steph?"
Durant proved prophetic as Curry did not miss in the Olympic Final. The Warriors’ point guard pushed Team USA to the gold medal by getting hot late in a close contest. He finished with 24 points and eight 3-pointers made on the historic night. The French had no answer and allowed Curry to pull out his famous “Night Night” celebration. Guarding Curry is nearly impossible, and France’s chemistry did not help.
Durant was the star of Court of Gold. He gave several candid interviews, including sharing why he enjoys playing for Team USA, how basketball changed his life, and giving his perspective on the team’s latest gold medal. Credit to KD for being so candid. It makes the documentary stand out and provides further context to all the historic events that happened in Paris.
Watch Court of Gold only on Netflix to see it all for yourself.
