The Phoenix Suns have done an amazing job of unearthing point guards since the awful Tyus Jones experience of last season, but why stop now?
While Collin Gillespie has well and truly broken out and Jamaree Bouyea following the same trajectory, the Suns can never have too many guards to make Devin Booker's life easier.
Suns must trade for Keon Ellis before the deadline.
Which is why they have to go and get Keon Ellis from the Sacramento Kings as soon as they can. He is languishing there for reasons we don't understand, and you can't deny he wouldn't be the perfect Jordan Ott player.
The Suns' head coach preaches locking in defensively each night. He doesn't care how big and physical the assignment is, you're expected to do all you can to shut them down. That is how Ellis has always played basketball.

His own numbers on that end may not be impacting the Kings the right way at the moment, they're better defensively when he's off the court, but that's because he's not being given the chance he was last season to show what he can do.
The best part of all of this is that it would also give General Manager Brian Gregory another opportunity to show he was the right choice for the job. Dealing with the Kings is among the best organizations you can do business with.
So a combination of center Nick Richards and a second round pick might be enough to get this done. Ellis should have interest from plenty of teams, and in truth he is better suited to helping a contender.
But the Suns need to think long-term, and although Jordan Goodwin has again shown his worth during his second stint in The Valley, who knows how long he'll be in Phoenix.
Instead the combination of Gillespie, Bouyea and Ellis around Booker and Jalen Green makes the most sense, because all three of them have different strengths that compliment the stars.
Ellis would have no problem taking a back seat offensively and being the next "Villain Jr." alongside Dillon Brooks. At 26-years-old his age profile is more in line with where the Suns are at as well.
So while Kevin Durant is tearing them down on the court over what went wrong last season, adding Ellis would be the latest smart acquisition by this front office. He's available, he's cheap and he fits the system now in place, there is literally no reason not to do this.
