This is a website that exists to talk about Phoenix Suns' basketball, which is why we won't be delving into what it is Miles Bridges get up to off the court.
Information on that is easily found, and suffice to say it is the reason why we were vehemently against the trade from the moment it was announced.
Latest off court issue with Bridges an unnecessary distraction
Despite the trade being barely a few weeks old and with Bridges still some way off appearing for the franchise, he was again in the news for the wrong reasons recently. You can check it out here if you want, although any time you're linking to TMZ only proves how bad a decision it was to trade for Bridges in the first place.
If you don't want to/care to check out why he is in the news this time, it was not because of anything he specifically did.
But at this stage that's not even the point anymore, because his personal issues bringing attention on an organization that played hard and was fun to watch last season is such a downer. It was great to root for Devin Booker, Dillon Brooks and company on the way to an unexpected postseason berth.
Getting behind Bridges does not feel nearly as natural, and it is only going to get worse as these stories crop up when the actual basketball is taking place. Consider that this should be a time when fans are breaking down what we just saw from the team's first Summer League game, an encouraging win over the Portland Trail Blazers.
Only instead of rookie Koa Peat's nice performance or the clear growth of Khaman Maluach being the main talking points, Bridges' name is again coming up for all of the wrong reasons.
The front office have put themselves in a lose-lose situation for next season as a result as well. If the team storms out of the gates and Bridges is a part of that success, it will be uncomfortale to cheer them on proper and any future stories off the court about him will take shine away from the good vibes.
If the team struggle to replicate last season's form (and Victor Wembanyama is already doing his part to ensure that happens), then stories breaking about Bridges will be even worse.
An easy scapegoat for fans to use as the reason for the step back in progress, whether that is true or not. It all just feels so avoidable, yet here we are in July being told about the terrible goings on of a player off the court, when now should be a time to get excited about what the future might hold.
Sad.
