The most dramatic change we are going to see from Devin Booker has already happened this offseason.
The Phoenix Suns’ talisman opting to change from his number one to 15 (tough legacy questions potentially on the horizon after that move) in honor of his father Melvin, and the franchise waited until Father’s Day to drop a cool video featuring the duo to make the change official.
Lakers on clock with Doncic shows how good Suns have it with Booker
Meanwhile in Los Angeles the Lakers appear to be feeling the heat of building a true contender around Luka Doncic, with the latest rumors coming out of there that he could have a “wandering eye” if they don’t get back to true contention soon.
This makes sense and is true for all organizations that have a superstar in this league, but the timing and the fact it has come out now should have Lakers fans worried. They have to figure out what to do with LeBron James, while whispers like this so early into the offseason are never a good sign.

“I think there’s an actual threat that he could have a wandering eye if the Lakers can’t deliver on the plans they presented last summer.”

Phoenix feels the same pressure to do right by Booker, but the fact you won’t be hearing any chatter of discontent to stir up splashy offseason moves has always been the Booker way. It is an increasingly rare trait to see in the NBA and the Suns are blessed their franchise cornerstone operates in this way.
Owner Mat Ishbia has said he is now committed to building a winner long-term around the 29-year-old, which made those sudden Josh Giddey links surprising. Whether anything comes of that or not, and this team does need a true floor general in the backcourt, Booker is going to continue doing his talking on the court.
One of the only other stars who operates in this way is Stephen Curry, but when you have a fistful of rings and have been part of dynasties it is easier to have patience. Booker has a single finals appearance to his name (like Doncic), so staying the course is harder and yet that is exactly what he is doing.
We don’t know how Booker’s time with the Suns will end, and as he said himself if he’s lucky this is only the halfway point of his career. But by letting the front office do their thing, he is allowing Phoenix to build another contender around him in their own time. It will making winning a championship all the sweeter when it does eventually happen.
