The Phoenix Suns may have had a busy offseason - with no fewer than nine new faces through the door and counting - but they have identified an opportunity to add a young player with upside and are doing everything they can to make it happen. That would be Jonathan Kuminga of the Golden State Warriors - and while the Warriors are growing tired of the chatter - there's still a way this happens.
Phoenix is rumored to have offered Nick Richards, Royce O'Neale and four second round picks to the Warriors for the 22-year-old, although as you might expect that hasn't moved the needle. It's certainly a starting point though - and although the ball is in the Warriors' court as Kuminga is a restricted free agent - it is clear they want to move on from all of this chatter as soon as possible.
Kuminga's latest Instagram post cause for concern for Suns.
In an effort to perhaps push through a deal, Kuminga took to Instagram with the caption "I'll bet on myself all day", which likely means he'll sign a qualifying offer with Golden State in order to land a much bigger payday down the road. This always comes with a risk - it has backfired on others before and there's always the chance of injury - but Kuminga wants to get paid.

Rumors also persist that the Suns will offer him a $70 million deal if they can land him, which is closer to the evaluation his side have moving forward. While all of that sounds great in theory, Kuminga taking to social media at all will bring back painful reminders of Kevin Durant's time in The Valley, and that is something the Suns want to move away from.
Durant is the most infamous player in the league at taking to social media to speak him mind and go back-and-forth with anybody who crosses him. Kuminga hasn't done that here and is obviously frustrated with his current situation, which you can understand. But perhaps saying nothing at all and letting this all play out behind the scenes would have been the thing to do here.
There's nothing to stop Kuminga doing the exact same in future if he somehow does end up in Phoenix, although we are getting ahead of ourselves. It has similarities to Jimmy Butler, who teams love when he arrives but always somehow overstays his welcome. Leaks come out of both camps and everything goes public, and Butler is on his way again.
The Suns are trying to build a new culture, and taking to social media to get your way is not what they're going for. You don't see franchise cornerstone Devin Booker doing this, it is unnecessary dramatics. The organization just passed on Chris Paul because he would have been a strong voice at a time when they have a new head coach in Jordan Ott. This is worth remembering.
