Jalen Green's crazy Suns stat from dream debut won't be beaten anytime soon

Jalen Green had a debut to remember against the L.A. Clippers, as his team high 29 points had The Valley dreaming of brighter days ahead. The 23-year-old's explosive display quickly dispelling the myth that both he and Devin Booker cannot play together in the same backcourt. The pair looking comfortable setting each other up, and sharing the basketball and offensive load.

Green also did something unexpected in compiling the stat line that he did on the night, and it made former Sun Bradley Beal look even worse in the process. Despite only being a career 34.3 percent shooter from deep - while also having some questionable chucking tendencies going back to his time with the Houston Rockets - Green nailed six of his efforts from 3-point range.

That represented a Suns' record from deep for a debut performance.

The irony of Green taking this piece of history for himself should not be lost on the fanbase, who had to listen all offseason about how they were fleeced in the Kevin Durant deal. It is true that Green did not have a great first playoff showing against the Golden State Warriors last season, but they are a veteran group and that was his first taste of the postseason.

If Green can make close to 40 percent of his shots from beyond the arc this season - which nobody expected him to come close to - then it will give the Suns a different dimension offensively that will lead to more wins. It will obviously open up the court more for Booker to operate, although the sizzling 43.1 percent he is connecting on is a career high for himself as well.

Really though you would think this would have been an award that Grayson Allen would have sown up long ago, particularly given he led the entire league in 3-point shooting percentage (46.1) percent in his first season in Phoenix. To start alongside Green when he made this history - while also having another sniper in Royce O'Neale right there with them - shows the firepower at the Suns' disposal.

Dillon Brooks made over 40 percent of his own 3-pointers last season, which combined with what we've seen from the other players mentioned here could see the Suns math their way to the play-in tournament. The team currently sits fourth in attempts from deep each night (43.2), and there is only one direction that number is going to trend now that Green is on the court.

Proving he can be a threat from all three levels will also lead to head coach Jordan Ott taking the ball out of Brooks' hands more often, and giving it to Green. Brooks has a big part to play this season, but he should never be taking the most field goal attempts on any given night. Green has proven in one game he should be that guy alongside Booker to do so instead, creating history in the process.
