Now that the All-Star break is over, it's time for the Phoenix Suns to shift into a higher gear. The question is whether they can do so. Their first test will be on Thursday in San Antonio, where the Spurs could be without their young star.
Victor Wembanyama is coming off his first All-Star honor. He's dealt with an illness throughout the season and is on the injury report for the game against the Suns for the same reason.
Phoenix isn't in a position to overlook San Antonio, even if Wemby is out. The No. 12 Spurs are two games back from the No. 11 Suns, and unlike Phoenix, they made a splash before the deadline. De'Aaron Fox is their star guard, and San Antonio didn't have to give up any of its young core to get him.
The Suns are 1-0 against the Spurs this season after beating San Antonio, 104-93, in Dec. 3's NBA Cup group stage game. Devin Booker led Phoenix with 29 points, while Devin Vassell had 25. Wemby finished with 15 points and 13 rebounds. The Spurs will undoubtedly miss his production if he's sidelined.
