The Phoenix Suns made a surprising move on Sunday to bring in Miles Bridges from the Charlotte Hornets, in a trade that brought with it its fair share of criticism.
Owner Mat Ishbia coming under the microscope for sacrificing culture building for a guy with known baggage, which led to the Michigan State links that have come up in the past again being brought to light.
At this rate Draymond Green will one day play in Phoenix
Ishbia doesn't appear to be able to resist people who are also linked to his alma mater, including first time head coach Jordan Ott who got the gig one year ago. That decision ultimately went well, as did the even riskier choice of hiring Brian Gregory as their General Manager despite having no previous experience.
Which is why despite it being thought of as a joke in the past, there is a real possibility that Ishbia eventually gets Green to come to The Valley. The franchise suddenly has an open roster spot in the wake of the Bridges trade, although the timing does not feel right.
The Suns have Bridges and Dillon Brooks as their starting forward combination, and Green doesn't seem ready to come off the bench just yet.
There's no doubt that the Golden State Warriors dynasty as we know it has run its course however, and Green may want to play elsewhere before he calls it a career. Getting LeBron James to go to San Francisco would change everything, but as of now that is not on the table.
Some Hornets fans have also put the theory out there that their franchise is angling themselves to bring Stephen Curry back "home" before he retires with the moves they have made, and it kind of makes sense.
If that were to happen then all bets would be off with that organization, and Green truly could spend some time with the Suns. Which would be weird, and again feed into this now accepted belief that Ishbia has to surround himself with Michigan guys.
What started out as a joke is getting all too real, and the prospect of cheering on Green would be strange. His best work would be done off the court as well, although to call him a strong locker-room presence given his own history wouldn't feel quite right.
The love affair continues between Ishbia and his college, turning Phoenix into Michigan West in the process.
