Following the Phoenix Suns’ blockbuster trade sending future Hall of Famer Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets for a package including Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks, Devin Booker is once again the star of the show in the Valley.

It’s not unfamiliar territory for Book, who was the star player for the franchise during multiple down years and also when Phoenix reached the NBA Finals with him at the helm along with another future Hall of Famer in “Point God” Chris Paul.

But this season feels different.

Suns for life? Devin Booker wants to stay in Phoenix for entire career, that would be rarified air

Book has no doubt matured from the varied experiences he’s already tangled with before his 30th birthday. From said Finals appearance, to suiting up for Team USA basketball in the Olympics (taking home gold medals in both 2020 and 2024), Booker is now a well-established league veteran more than capable of being “the guy.”

The start to his 2025-26 season is showing that even as the key cog opposing teams must attempt to slow down, Booker is going to get his.

As the Suns Instagram account pointed out, Book was averaging 30+ points and 5+ assists per game while shooting at least 50% from the field and 40% from 3-point range through his team’s first eight games. The only other players in league history to accomplish that feat are Steph Curry (twice), Michael Jordan (1992-93) and Larry Bird (1984-85).

That’s it.

Needless to say, that’s special company to be in the mix with three all-time greats.

But Book continues to up the ante for himself from a statistical perspective.

With a hat tip to @DevinBookerMuse on X (formerly Twitter), the Suns account pulled another statistical marvel from Book’s blistering start to the 2025-26 campaign.

Through his first nine games of the season, Booker averaged 30+ points and 7+ assists per game while sinking at least 50% of his field goals, 40% of his 3-pointers and 85% of his free throws.

Players who’ve done that in NBA history? Devin Armani Booker.

That’s it.

Book finally dipped below the 30-plus points per game threshold after game 10 of the season (a second-straight win over the Los Angeles Clippers in which he went 8-of-19 shooting for 21 points). But the scorching start for Booker remains extremely impressive.

As it stands, heading into Monday’s Nov. 10 game against the New Orleans Pelicans, Booker’s points per game (29.3), assists per game (7.2), offensive rebounds per game (1.4), field goal percentage (50%) and 3-point percentage (41%) all sit at career bests.

The only downside to this point (and with the Suns as a team generally) has been turnovers.

Booker is averaging 4.2 turnovers per contest, both his worst mark since the 2018-19 year (his age-22 season) and the worst mark of his career as he takes on more ball-handling duties.

New head coach Jordan Ott surely would like to see Booker cut down on those turnovers as the season goes along, but it’s been otherwise impossible to fault his offensive output to begin his 11th season in the league.

Book’s effective field goal percentage (a metric that adjusts for a 3-point field goal being worth more than a 2-pointer) of 56.3% also sits at a career best. That he’s been able to stay this efficient as a volume scorer who’s also taking on more responsibilities amid a roster shakeup is certainly worthy of praise.

The Suns are again unquestionably Booker’s team, and he’s embracing that responsibility with some of the best basketball he’s ever played in the early going.
