Devin Booker has chance to topple Dirk Nowitzki's previously untouchable title

I mean, could happen?

We know you love the Phoenix Suns and we know you love Devin Booker, otherwise you wouldn't be here right now.

But like us you can also accept that Booker and the franchise won't be winning a first ever NBA championship this postseason. They have to get there first.

Booker winning a title would surpass achievements of Dirk Nowitzki

Suppose the Suns did somehow go from a plucky seventh seed all the way to the promised land though, wouldn't that make it the hardest journey to a ring ever for a superstar?

That is a mantle that is unofficially held by the legendary Dirk Nowitzki, his Dallas Mavericks of 2011 going to hell and back in order to get over the hump.

Their journey consisting of beating Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge in the first round with the Portland Trail Blazers, before sweeping Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round.

Then it was onto the Western Conference Finals and a 4-1 series victory against an Oklahoma City Thunder side featuring three future MVPs in Kevin Durant, James Harden and Russell Westbrook.

The NBA Finals was the toughest of them all, needing six to take down LeBron James and the "Miami Heatles". Interestingly, the Trail Blazers were the only other opponent to take two games off them.

Nowitzki didn't have a truly elite co-star, instead there was considerable depth and the likes of Jason Kidd and Shawn Marion reaching the end of their careers. Tyson Chandler and Jason Terry were immense as well.

Yet Booker does actually have a tougher path to the top, and it would begin by somehow taking down Victor Wembanyama and the ascending San Antonio Spurs.

If they manage to do that, which would be the shock of the decade in and of itself, and it is onto a likely meeting with Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets.

Come through that series, and the defending champion Thunder are surely waiting on the other side. Whichever team comes out of the East, will not have gone through anything close to that.

The Boston Celtics and Detroit Pistons both present very different kinds of problems for the Suns to contend with, meaning they wouldn't even be favored then either.

If Booker did all of that, the Suns would have to start building the statue this offseason and ensure that he has not only a no-trade clause, but a "can never leave the state of Arizona" stipulation in his contract forever.

Alright so all of this is tongue and cheek, and winning even one game will be an improvement on the last two seasons. But this is actually in play for Booker, impossible as it looks.
