If you're still with us by this point then credit to you, because the power forward selection on this 0-82 Phoenix Suns starting five attempt for this decade was a real low point.
One that potentially cost them an NBA Championship back in 2021, but that is in the past now. We're finishing off with the center spot, and this was a little tougher once you got beyond Deandre Ayton on the depth chart than it should have been.
Chimezie Metu the unfortunate soul to be this team's big man
There is definitely a section of you out there who will be crying out for Drew Eubanks to take this spot, and we hear you. But if you actually go back and watch him play for the Suns, for an often undersized big he sure did get physical with opponents.
There wasn't much else going on and it was bad, just not quite as bad as Metu. Like another player on this team in Yuta Watanabe, he joined the Suns at a time when they had zero cap flexibility thanks to the arrivals of Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal.
Getting him from the Sacramento Kings represented something of a steal, as the belief was he could give Phoenix 10-15 minutes of pure energy off the bench each night. That never materialized, and like Watanabe he was also gone from The Valley by the trade deadline of the same season.
He ended up in Detroit with the Pistons at a time when they were flat out bad, appearing in 14 games with a surprising seven starts to finish out the 2023-24 season. He hasn't been seen in the league since.
So like Watanabe, Metu gets dinged here because there were modest expectations that he could be at the back end of the rotation for a true contender. Instead it became apparent almost immediately that then head coach Frank Vogel didn't trust him.
Bol Bol is another player who perhaps could have landed here, but the truth is he was too fun to do dirty in this way. Others like Damian Jones (14 games played), Darius Bazely (seven), Frank Kaminsky (nine) and Udoka Azubuike (16) all don't qualify thanks to the 20 game minimum rule that was imposed here.
Then there are the likes of Jock Landale and Bismack Biyombo, who had their flaws but were both good at different points for the franchise. This was always Metu's spot to occupy, and he gives us the best chance to go 0-82 alongside the other four members of this horror group.
The Suns might have enjoyed some great times this decade, but these players prove it wasn't all good.
