As enjoyable as watching the Phoenix Suns participate in Summer League has been, there is only so much emphasis you can put on how important these games are.
Sure has been nice to watch Rasheer Fleming and Khaman Maluach look like they have made real improvement, but Bleacher Report have arrived on the scene to extinguish all of those good vibes.
Devin Booker not named in top 30 players in NBA by 2030
They made an attempt at predicting who will be the top 30 players in the league at the end of the decade, which I mean... what else do you expect as we amble through this July wasteland?
We're not sure what was more surprising about this list, the fact that Devin Booker didn't feature or the realization that nobody should be surprised by this. The franchise cornerstone will be 34-years-old by then, while Victor Wembanyama will only be 26.
Not going to lie, that is a big yikes.
What that also means is the Suns are both currently getting the best version of Booker who is in his prime, while also trotting out a team that has no chance at making the NBA Finals. What else are the supposed to do we hear you say, and you're not wrong.
But it just highlights the depressing reality that although rooting for this team last season was fun, and with our patience being tested with the Miles Bridges move now official, what we're witnessing might just be as good as it gets with Booker in The Valley from now until he calls it a career.
Obviously another swing for a superstar would change the outlook, while it's not like Booker will be retiring on New Year's Day of 2031. The really scary part about all of this is that he may not even be a top 20 player in the league currently, a reality fans rightly don't want to contend with.
That the Suns don't have a single player on this list is further reason to feel pessimistic about the future, but we know that is too hard to predict. Khaman Maluach is already shooting up boards throughout the league for his own Summer League performances, while the best could be yet to come from Jalen Green.
It is just a painful reminder that the national media have moved on from believing the Suns can be anything for the rest of this decade, and that we're living in Booker's best days right now at a time when the front office can't surround him with enough help.
