1. Become the team’s secondary playmaker
People are aware that the Suns lack a legit playmaker this season. With Devin Booker hinted at being the primary facilitator, Nurkic can contribute heavily to the team in that category.
One of the most overlooked aspects of the 29-year-old center is his ability to read the defense. Over his last seven seasons with the Blazers, he averaged 2.8 assists from the post.
Although that may not surprise casual fans, averaging that many assists is quite a lot for a big man. Now that he’s playing for Phoenix, which has plenty of offensive options, Nurkic can showcase his playmaking ability.
The team is high on him being the secondary playmaker this season, and it looks like the center could achieve that feat.
"“The reason I’m here, they really believe I’m a great fit,” Nurkic said. “I’m not coming in to replace someone. [We] have three scorers, 30 points per game. … Like Book said, I’m a point guard now. It’ll be fun for me to enjoy. Fresh start, superteam.”"
The 2023-24 season will be an exciting campaign for Nurkic and the Suns. With these realistic goals, their chances of being contenders could increase and significantly impact the league.
