Suns get great news with a potential key role player
By Justin Lee
The Phoenix Suns got some great news right as the 2023-24 season is about to tip-off. This season is crucial, as now that they have a big three, they are expected to do some serious damage in the playoffs, and many people think they have to win it this year.
While I don’t think not winning the NBA Finals is a failure of a season, depending on what they do in the playoffs, I do think they have to win one with this core group. And, who knows, maybe that could be this year. It’s very hard to predict anything before a season starts because so much changes throughout the course of a season.
For example, the Suns don’t have one of their better role players right now, but later down the season, they will. That’s huge, too. Role players are very important to every team. You can have a big three, but if the role players aren’t there, you won’t win.
Luckily for the Suns, they just got some great news on that player. According to Gerald Bourget of PHNX, the Suns sent out an update on three and wing Damion Lee.
"“Phoenix Suns Damion Lee today underwent a successful surgery to repair his right meniscus. The surgery was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles. Updates on Lee’s return to the court will be provided as appropriate.”"
The Suns used Lee a ton last year, as he does bring vital assets to the squad. He can shoot the ball very well, especially as a spot-up shooter. While he isn’t blood-related to the Currys, he is related, so maybe that is why.
Lee is a willing defender and plays hard on that end of the floor. If he can do just those two things, he will help the Suns bench become and elite unit that won’t have a ton of worry when the three stars aren’t on the court.
