Free agents the Phoenix Suns can target with the veteran minimum.
4. Kevin Love
After being a premiere player for much of his career, Kevin Love transitioned to a smaller role with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat last season. He’s had trouble staying on the court when playing big minutes, so it’s extremely likely that the veteran’s minimum is the next step for him.
Love has always been a favorite target amongst Suns fans due to his fit with the team, which remains as perfect as ever. He provides size and rebounding at the four, while also still being a tremendous floor spacer.
He also showed his vet savvy throughout the Heat’s postseason run, taking charges, making full-court outlet passes, and just consistently making the right plays. At a time in his career when many didn’t bat an eyelid at the Cavaliers waiving him, Love proved he still had some juice left in his role with the Heat.
An added advantage of picking up Love is that he can provide an early season buffer for two young players that the Suns just added in Toumani Camara and Isaiah Todd. With Love on the team, they won’t be asked to do too much right away, and could even pick up a few tricks from the veteran. An ideal way to bring along two players who the team hope will crack the rotation proper in time.
