The first big domino of the 2023 NBA offseason has happened.

The Phoenix Suns’ pursuit of an NBA title continued by acquiring Bradley Beal from the Washington Wizards for Chris Paul, Landry Shamet and “multiple” second round picks, bolstering the team’s roster around Devin Booker and Kevin Durant.

Beal is in the middle of a “super-max” contract that included a no trade clause, making it easier for the Suns to outbid limited suitors for the former All-Star wing. The wing only played 50 games last season and averaged 23 points per game on 50% shooting, but did average 31 points per game three seasons ago when the Wizards were a playoff caliber team.

Sportsbooks took note of the Suns improving it’s roster at the top, shifting from +900 to +650 at consensus sportsbooks.

The Suns have limited assets, including no future draft picks to move, but do have Deandre Ayton as a possible trade chip to move to improve the team’s depth for next season. However, there’s no denying that the top of the Suns’ roster as currently constructed is amongst the best in basketball.

Here are the updated NBA Finals odds ahead of the NBA Draft on Thursday and the offseason, which begins on July 1.
