With the Phoenix Suns waiving Chris Paul on Wednesday, the door has been opened for him to leave the team in order to further chase the ring he so desperately wants. While there is still a chance that Paul returns to the Suns, he very well could leave if the two sides can’t come together on a new contract.

Paul may not be a top point guard in the NBA like he once was. However, there are few doubts that championship-contending teams will be looking to sign Paul in order to boost their odds of winning a ring.

Here are three contenders that should pursue Chris Paul in free agency:

3. L.A. Clippers

One of the biggest problems with the L.A. Clippers since they brought in Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, is the fact that they team doesn’t have a true primary playmaker. They have plenty of firepower on both offense and defense, but never a point guard to help mould it all together on both sides of the ball.

They’ve tried guys like Reggie Jackson, John Wall, and Russell Westbrook, but have never really found the proper solution for their problems. While Paul wouldn’t solve every issue the team has, there’s no doubt that he’d play a massive role in helping mitigate said problems.

Paul would instantly provide some elite levels of playmaking the Clippers haven’t seen while also bringing offensive versatility as a scorer. The Clippers have plenty of offensive threats, but Paul would bring a certain three level scoring skillset the team doesn’t really have aside from George, Leonard, and at times Norman Powell.

If the Clippers want to make one final push with the core they have, they must pursue Paul. The big three they could form very well could make the Clippers true championship contenders and maybe even bring the team their first ring ever.
