Phoenix Suns target No. 5 – D’Angelo Russell

This may be the most far-fetched name on the list, but it’s worth mentioning. D’Angelo Russell is in the middle of an excellent playoff run with the Los Angeles Lakers and is headed for free agency once the season concludes. While it seems like the Lakers will do everything they can to keep him, the Suns should monitor his situation from afar, as he’d certainly be another solid choice to fill the point guard position if they move on from Paul.

Russell makes the list because of his good friend Devin Booker. Several years ago, Booker wanted the Suns to pursue Russell in free agency, but they elected not to. Per SNY’s Ian Begley, that was not a well-liked move by Booker. The two sides are seemingly on great terms right now, but they could look to make their franchise star even happier by pursuing Russell. They could knock out two birds with one stone by also adding their point guard of the future at the same time.

Like with many of these potential candidates, the big question is what Russell may be seeking on the free agent market this off-season. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent, meaning he can sign to any team he pleases, so perhaps Booker could do some recruiting to lure his friend away from LA if the Suns are serious about finding a new point guard this off-season.
