Lakers vs. Suns prediction and odds for Monday, December 19 (Trust Phoenix to win big at home)
By Reed Wallach
The Phoenix Suns finally got the better of their new rivals, New Orleans Pelicans, on Saturday night behind a heroic 58-point outing from Devin Booker.
Now the Suns play host to the Los Angeles Lakers, who will be without Anthony Davis for the foreseeable future after he suffered a foot injury late last week. The Lakers scored a last minute victory over the Wizards on Sunday night, but now have a quick turnaround to face on of the Western Conference elite teams.
How should we bet this Pacific Division battle? First, let’s check out the odds:
Lakers vs. Suns Odds, Spread and Total
Lakers vs. Suns Prediction and Pick
The Suns are one of the best home teams in the league, 13-3 straight up and 10-6 against the spread this season, and now get to face a short handed Lakers team that is far worse on the road, 5-9 against the number away from home.
Factor in that LeBron James had to play 36 minutes in Sunday’s victory, there is a chance his minutes are decreased on the second night of a back-to-back. Further, the team simply isn’t the same without Davis, who was playing at one of the highest levels of his career.
Los Angeles is +9.3 with Davis on the floor, per Cleaning the Glass, in the 88th percentile amongst players this season. Against a Suns team that is 10th in defensive rating and third in offensive rating, I don’t expect the Lakers to hold up their end of the bargain and stay within single digits.
