It’s fair to surmise that the Phoenix Suns and San Antonio Spurs are sitting at the complete opposite ends of the NBA spectrum – the Suns still aspire to win a championship in 2022-23, while the Spurs have fully embraced rebuild mode despite retaining one of the best coaches in history – Gregg Popovich.

San Antonio now find themselves in the frame for the worst record in the league, subsequently giving them a good chance for the number one overall pick and consensus selection Victor Wembanyama.

Given the contrasting positions of the Phoenix Suns and San Antonio Spurs, trade possibilities may open up that could be of benefit to both teams.

The Spurs have already gutted much of their roster, led by the offseason departure of All-Star point-guard Dejounte Murray. The franchise received three future first-round picks and a pick swap for the 25 year-old, signalling their intention to enter a full-scale rebuild.

San Antonio are likely to join the Utah Jazz, Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder at the bottom of the Western Conference, with the Spurs possibly laying claim to the worst roster in the league.

The Rockets and Thunder both have genuine blue-chip prospects they’ve acquired through the draft, while the Jazz still have valuable veteran pieces until the point they inevitably trade them. On the other hand, the Spurs have a couple decent role players, some young players with potential but who aren’t high-credentialed, and then a number of players you may have never heard of.

Although their trade candidates don’t appear as valuable as a team like the Jazz, there presents some options that could be nice compliments to Phoenix’s current roster.

Here are three potential trades between the Suns and Spurs.
