Phoenix Suns Big Deandre Ayton Must Work on his Leadership and Mental Toughness

I will not dwell on this one as much as the first two because this an abstract idea. It’s not tangible, so I don’t have any numbers to back up my argument, and yet, I still believe that Ayton has more to learn about when it comes to leadership on and off the court.

Between the reports about his video game addiction and those of him butting heads with Monty Williams, I have to come to the conclusion that Ayton is much more like regular 22 year olds than most great basketball players are.

What I mean by that is Ayton lives life like he is a kid floating through college, hence why he stays up all night playing NBA 2K. He simply does what he wants to. However, he must understand that if he truly wants to evolve into a superstar, he needs to work harder. He has to set an example for his team.

Even though Ayton is his own man, it is important to remember that life can be tough and there is no reason to make it tougher by not following the examples other people have set for you.

If you wish to be a great basketball player, Chris Paul would be a great mentor. If you just want to skate by on talent, then Chris Paul might be a nightmare. Let’s hope that Ayton truly wants the former for himself.
