Even with roster-changing moves coming by the many and the Kevin Durant clock continuing to tick, the Phoenix Suns want to keep things rolling on the hardwood, specifically this week as they open up NBA Summer League play.

Each offseason, the NBA reconvenes for a brief, but fun series of games which feature lottery draft picks, March madness heroes, standouts from overseas leagues, and sometimes a few aging veterans.

It also allows assistant coaches to take the reins for a bit. Last summer, Brian Randle took up the whistle and clipboard for Monty Williams. The 37 year old fared well, utilizing Phoenix’s typical pick-and-roll oriented offense while also letting the young guns run freely.

During this tournament last year, ex-Sun Jalen Smith drew more eyes than any other player by a wide margin. Having barely played his rookie season but still being a lottery pick, Stix had the spotlight hovering over him at all times.

Phoenix ended up going 2-3, but still offered up some entertainment for the fans mainly thanks to Smith and occasional microwave scorer Ty-Shon Alexander.

But with Phoenix trading Smith away this season and having gone without a draft pick each of the past two offseasons, they do not possess any big ticket prospects to look out for. This summer, the attention from Suns fans should be split more evenly.

Still oozing with raw talent though, Phoenix will march forward with some intriguing players to watch. If you plan on tuning in for this showcase of unrecognized talent, keep you eyes peeled for these three “summer” Suns.
