Even if you assembled five cases of firecrackers, bottle rockets, and sparklers to celebrate Independence Day this weekend, you’ll likely finish second behind the fireworks display the NBA is about to put on. As contenders, the Phoenix Suns will have nice seats for this “show of shows” soon to ignite, of course being NBA free agency.
This afternoon, the league-wide fire sale on talent opens up. Even though only a handful of teams possess enough cap space to make a major moves, some big bangs, explosions, and even Woj bombs are certain to go off all the same.
At this moment, the Suns have Chris Paul, Devin Booker, Mikal Bridges, Jae Crowder, Landry Shamet, Dario Saric, Cameron Payne, Cameron Johnson, and Torrey Craig under contract for the coming season. With those deals adding up to roughly $128.8 million, they already push Phoenix over the cap.
Without much financial wiggle room, the task is simple, but not easy for the Suns: using their limited spending options to wisely rebuild the team.
At the same time though, the Suns find themselves fresh off an almost unbelievably disappointing end to their 2021-22 campaign. Due to that, fans might want them to kick down a few doors once entering the free agent market and pursue their desired targets with aggression.
This summer though, Phoenix needs to find a happy medium between filling their roster’s gaps and keeping their wallets in check. To accomplish this goal, they need to steer clear of some free agents who might not be worth the buck, such as these three.
