Former Chris Paul Teammates for the Phoenix Suns to Sign: Dennis Schröder

The past two seasons, the Phoenix Suns saw Chris Paul fall victim to the injury bug during the playoffs. With him only getting older, such issues are likely to persist in the future rather than go away.

His assumed backup? That was Cameron Payne, who seemed to fall off a cliff this past season as well. Shooting inefficiencies, turnover problems, and injuries all collided to spoil his 2021-22 season, rendering him as an unreliable option going forward.

Needless to say, the Suns need a true backup point guard.

On the other hand, Dennis Schroder has struggled over the past two seasons, making poor financial decisions with the Los Angeles Lakers, and then bouncing from the eventual NBA Finals bound Boston Celtics to the lottery bound Houston Rockets.

A positive season would do his career wonders at this point, and who stood by his side the last time he enjoyed one of those? Yes, our very own Chris Paul. When the two played together for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Schroder put up career-high field goal and 3-point percentage numbers, eventually finishing second in Sixth Man of the Year voting.

Needless to say, Dennis Schroder needs CP3 and the Phoenix Suns.

These two resemble one of the more equally beneficial matches you can make between a team and a free agent this summer. His aforementioned drop-off since leaving Oklahoma City should not allow him to command more than a veteran’s minimum contract, making him attainable for Phoenix as well.
