The 2021-22 Phoenix Suns are a team out for revenge. After blowing a 2-0 series lead to lose last year’s NBA Finals, the Valley Boys are taking their frustrations out on the rest of the league.
At this moment, Phoenix sits in first place over the entire NBA with a 62-14 record. The Suns stand only one win away from setting the record for most wins in franchise history.
The Phoenix Suns have not Lost a Series All Season
Phoenix has been the most complete team from start to finish this year. Even with injuries to Chris Paul and other key players, the Suns steamrolled past any team that dared to stand in their way.
This rang especially true when CP3 fractured his thumb and star guard Devin Booker went into health and safety protocols a few weeks ago.
Despite losing their top two stars, the team continued to play marquee basketball, keeping themselves far ahead of the next closest team in the West, first being the Golden State Warriors and now the Memphis Grizzlies.
Now, with Paul and Booker back, the Suns find themselves riding a nine-game winning streak, and seem to have no plans of stopping it anytime soon.
As StatMuse shared, Phoenix currently owns a .1000 record (no losses) vs 16 NBA teams, which is more than half the league. For the remaining 14 teams, they have a .500 or better record. This illustrates straight dominance from a team that came so close to their first franchise championship last season.
So, will this season be the year Phoenix and Chris Paul finally get that ring? As far as I’m concerned, if they stay healthy through the playoffs, the Suns are the team to beat.
If anyone wants to win the 2022 NBA championship, they’ll have to come through Phoenix, and that’s no easy feat with the Suns being 31-8 on their home floor this season.
Want to hear something scarier than that though? Phoenix is even better on the road, currently boasting a 31-6 record for the season.
During the 1993 NBA season, then MVP and Phoenix Suns star, Charles Barkley, said the following about his team’s championship chances:
"“I believe it is our destiny to win the world championship. God wants us to win the world championship.”"
Unfortunately, for Barkley and Suns fans, the Chicago Bulls knocked off Phoenix in six games that year. But this season, things seem different. The Suns resemble the NBA’s best team, and there with nobody else seemingly close to their level.
So, maybe the 2021-22 season is the year Barkley was referring to when he said “God wanted them to win.”
Suns fans have been waiting a long time to see their guys hoist the Larry O’Brien. With the playoffs only a few weeks away, and Phoenix still cooking, fans understandably cannot wait to see what could be history in the making for the team that plays in the Valley of the Suns.
