Phoenix Suns March Madness Wish List: Kofi Cockburn

The Suns more or less built their entire offense built around a pick-and-roll based system. With that in mind, they could do no better as far as college basketball prospects go than Illinois big man Kofi Cockburn as a potential addition.

At seven-feet tall, weighing 300 pounds, and with a nice touch around the rim, Cockburn represents the college game’s best roll man. He’s NBA ready and makes all the sense in the world as another big for Chris Paul and Devin Booker to torment defenses with off the screen.

Cockburn averaged 21.0 points and 10.9 rebounds per game this year to help Illinois split the Big Ten regular season title. Against Chattanooga yesterday, he came away with 17 points, 13 rebounds, three blocks, and a game-winning put-back.

Finding space for Cockburn to play might be difficult, as they Suns remain stacked at the five with Deandre Ayton, JaVale McGee, and Bismack Biyombo all aboard. But to be fair, Phoenix resembles the deepest team in the entire league, making it difficult to give minutes to just about anyone they might add.

But as an insurance option obviously with high upside due to his age, Cockburn feels like another seamless fit on this team.  His size and athleticism that go with his pick-and-roll familiarity should make him a fun watch as well, capable of coming up with earth-shattering dunks and rejections.
