Phoenix Suns First Round Opponents to Avoid: Minnesota Timberwolves

While the Minnesota Timberwolves might not look like much of a first round threat at first glance, they pack a bigger punch than the names on their roster might let on. What they lack in playoff experience, they make up for with hustle and aggressiveness.

So far this year, the Wolves average the most offensive rebounds and steals per game in the entire league. Even amidst a bad shooting night, they can contend with anyone thanks to this grit.

Whether or not they chose to wear their lime green jerseys, Minnesota also resembles something of a Kryptonite for the Suns. The Golden State Warriors are the only other Western Conference team to average points per game vs the Suns this year. The Timberwolves know how to come at the Suns, and do so fearlessly.

Karl-Anthony Towns specifically enjoys playing against Phoenix. Over the last two years, he’s averaged more points per game against only two other teams, apparently enjoying each and every chance he gets to go after longtime friend Devin Booker.

Like the two teams mentioned beforehand, and maybe even to a further degree, the Timberwolves feel unlikely to put the Suns on upset alert. But as a first round matchup for a team looking to go the distance, you’d rather catch the smoke from someone else.
