Phoenix Suns Takeaways: Devin Booker more than capable of running point
Point Book also showed that he is more than capable at running our offense. Suns fans would much rather forget the days of Isaiah Canaan starting at point guard and for good reason.
However, for those that recall that dark time period in Phoenix Suns history, there was always a bright spot in Devin Booker. Even though most hoops fans know Booker for his shooting touch and beef with mascots, Suns fans know that Booker is much more than a shooter.
I alluded to his time sharing the back court with G-Leaguers and almost retired players (all due respect to Jamal Crawford), but Booker has shown that he can be the lead guard. His play making just gets overshadowed by his explosive scoring talents.
Last night’s game was the perfect example of why Booker deserves extra respect more for his play making abilities.
Contributing with 25 points, 12 assists, and six steals for a guy playing “out of position” isn’t too shabby. Booker frequently drove down the lane with the clear purpose of looking for shooters to free themselves up early and often.
He showed true patience last night and did not come out looking for his shot. He can get a good look whenever he feels like, but prioritizing finding shots for teammates shows that Point Book winning games is sustainable.
