Phoenix Suns 3-Point Contest Candidate: Devin Booker…again
Devin Booker already wore the 3-Point Contest crown once before, and also participated in it four other times during his career, but if there were ever a season where he needed to do it, it has to be this one.
Shooting a career-high 40.8 percent from beyond the arc, Booker finally learned how to shoot the ball from deep at an efficient level this year. But even more impressively, the volume for Booker is still there as well. At this point, Booker averages 6.8 attempts from deep per game, making him one of just six players to shoot that many triples each game and stay above the 40.0 percent threshold.
For reference, that remains something Steph Curry, Buddy Hield, Tyler Herro, and Trae Young have all failed to accomplish.
Even more recently, Booker’s 3-point shooting mastery has been impossible to ignore, having tied his own record for 3-pointers made in a game on three separate occasions since this time last month.
Booker’s ability to hit triples at the ideal time also makes him a worthy participant. Although the Suns eventually lost the game on the next play, he sank one long-range bucket with the game on the line just a few weeks ago against the Memphis Grizzlies. His dagger shot vs the Dallas Mavericks also came from beyond the arc roughly a month before that.
Having done the contest every year since the 2017-18 season, only with exception to last year when he bowed out due to an injury, Booker clearly enjoys this event. So with him now better suited to compete than ever before, why not give him the green light?
