As of this morning, NBA All-Star weekend stands just one month away. With the Phoenix Suns running through teams left and right, currently boasting a 34-9 record, this first stretch of the regular season flew by faster than Cameron Payne on a fast break layup.

But even with a well-deserved rest period now on the horizon, the Valley Boys will almost certainly find themselves playing some basketball over this coming break.

As the main component of this mid-to-late season celebration, the All-Star Game promises to feature at least two Suns, with some already calling guards Devin Booker and Chris Paul “locks” to participate. Deandre Ayton might join them as well should his ankle heal up, and if the Suns maintain their top record, Monty Williams will serve as a coach.

However, the undercards for this event deserve some attention as well—likely to feature at least two or three other Suns players.

With Jalen Smith’s rise as a valuable bench piece in his sophomore season, he makes for an intriguing option to potentially join the Rising Star’s Challenge. But aside from the Skills Challenge, that then leaves us with the 3-Point Contest and the Slam Dunk Contest.

Our Devin Booker won the most recent 3-Point Contest for the Suns during the 2017-18 season. He knocked off Golden State’s own sniper Klay Thompson during the event’s final round, burying a record 28 shots from deep.

However, Phoenix’s Dunk Contest history takes us further back, as Cedric Cellabos last won the event for Phoenix during the 1991-92 season. On his winning dunk, he ran down from half court while blindfolded to flush home a two-handed slam.

But this year, the Suns want to make some more noise at both events. By way of these three players, Phoenix can dazzle fans and make their presence well-known in Cleveland come February.
