Phoenix Suns Top Christmas Day Moments
Rounding out this list, these three moments put the star on top for the Suns. But unlike with the Home Alone movies, we actually want to see more of these in the future, so hopefully this year’s game delivers a few moments that make it up here.
No. 3 – Grant Hill sinks full-court shot on Clippers, 2009
On Phoenix’s most recent Christmas Day outing, Grant Hill connected on full court shot at the halftime buzzer vs the Los Angeles Clippers. He finished with 12 points, five rebounds, and two assists. The Suns also went onto win the contest, dumping snow onto LA by way of a 93-124 final score.
No. 2 – Suns with near-record blowout of Lakers, 1973
A landslide victory over the Los Angeles Lakers is something every Suns fan wants for Christmas. In 1973, they got exactly that, thanks to Charlie Scott and Neal Walk, who combined for 47 points against the Lake Show.
That all led to an easy 135-100 victory for the Suns. To this day, it remains the second largest win vs the Lakers in franchise history. Granted, the Lakers played this one without Jerry West, but beating the pulp out of the purple and gold always feels good, and even more so on Christmas.
No. 1 – Connie Hawkins’s immortal game vs Seattle Supersonics, 1971
A knee injury forced Connie Hawkins to come off the bench during Phoenix’s Christmas game against the Seattle Supersonics in 1971. But it mattered not, Hawkins pushed through, and contributed with 31 points, while shooting 13-21 from the field.
His effort led the Suns to a 116-86 victory, and after hearing of his scoring output following the game, Hawkins even asked, “is that all I scored?” His massive game even despite his health, and expressed confidence after the game made the Suns look like an unstoppable force.
It resembles a truly underrated and inspiring moment in Phoenix Suns history—the perfect culmination to a Christmas Day game.
