Phoenix Suns must full integrate Landry Shame to cover for Devin Booker
Landry Shamet‘s first few games for the Suns leave a lot still desired. He currently finds himself shooting a career-worst 38.0 percent from the field, while averaging his lowest scoring output with 7.3 points each night.
But Booker’s injury opens the door for Shamet to spend more on-court time with Chris Paul, which will inevitably generate a higher volume and quality of looks for him. The sharpshooter will have no choice other than to ramp up quickly in this time span, but hopefully that propels him into a more effective style of play even after Booker returns.
Shamet’s game just looks mundane at its core right now, with another level to be reached in the realm of viability with him. He represents the perfect puzzle piece to add into this talent collection, and needs to turn the corner now. Afford him that, and watch the benefits flow in as games grow more meaningful.
Even with Bridges, Johnson, Ayton, and Shamet stepping up, the Suns likely bank more on their half court defense and ball security as they move forward without Booker. These players and their collaborative efforts can still make things easier though, so keep an eye out for them.
