Phoenix Suns need consistency from Cameron Johnson to cover for Devin Booker
The aforementioned lineup featuring Johnson with the starters only registered 21 possessions together so far this season, which remains a very small sample size even a quarter way through this year. Whether or not by design, Monty kept it at vaulted, but he now finds himself with no choice but to unleash it.
Over the last 10 games, Johnson already finds himself up to 10.8 points per game, shooting 44.0 percent from deep on 5.4 attempts. He also splashed home at least three shots from range on six separate occasions this year.
As a player, he strongly resembles Jae Crowder, with them both operating as versatile wings with quick triggers from deep and viable consistency.
In that relation, chemistry between Johnson and Chris Paul comes relatively easily. Almost routinely, both Crowder and Johnson often screen for CP3, forcing defenders to tip their hands in coverage, prompting Paul to wait a moment, and then toss over a pass for a high percentage look.
These sequences occurred often during the playoffs last year, and now work as a staple built into the team’s dynamic. The Suns need that synergy especially when Bridges and Ayton sit, making Johnson’s consistency with it all too imperative while Booker heals up.
