Phoenix Suns Key to Beating Golden State Warriors: Turn Defense into Offense

Despite their intimidating record, one clear flaw still lies at the base of this Warriors team: their frequent turnovers.

As it stands now, only the Los Angeles Lakers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Houston Rockets give away more possessions per game than Golden State. The Warriors also surrender the ninth most points per game off said turnovers.

The Suns just defeated the Nets, a top half team in fewest turnovers per game, almost exclusively by taking the ball away and then scoring. Phoenix clearly has a knack for forcing turnovers, no matter who they face.

With this skill, the Suns cannot take their foot off the gas, and must use it to exploit a team like the Warriors who struggle with their turnovers. If the Suns stay stingy, they can turn this into a blood bath and run away with a statement win.

Watch primarily for Mikal Bridges to jump around with his defensive assignments in trying to accomplish this.

Last night, Bridges finished with a whopping seven steals against Brooklyn, and Golden State’s Draymond Green finds himself averaging his most turnovers per game since the 2015-16 season. Point guard Steph Curry also leads the team right now with 3.3 giveaways per game, and Jordan Poole is averaging a career-high 3.8 turnovers per 100 possessions, which even accounts for his increased play time.
